The state Department of Transportation announced earlier this month it is replacing two outdated weigh-in-motion scales on the freeway with new technology. Such scales are used to monitor the weights of semi-trucks without them having to stop.

Sensors are being replaced northbound near Milepost 271 and southbound near Milepost 276. The work will require digging out the road across two lanes.

Traffic will be shifted into the far left lane. Department spokeswoman David House said the work is expected to be completed by early July.
