The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
The Salem City Council will meet this evening with a full agenda.
Councilors will consider whether to adopt the 2023-24 budget, finalizing a months-long process. The city faces a budget shortfall it hopes to address with an increase to the operations fee on utility bills, which will start July 1, and a proposed new payroll tax. Whether or not the city will apply a new payroll tax will be considered in the next meeting, scheduled for July 10.
The agenda also includes a vote on the capital improvement plan, which outlines five years’ worth of construction plans throughout the city.
The meeting will also include a look at the city’s plan to phase out free street parking downtown over the next few years.
