The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
Federal and local authorities have so far arrested at least three people this year now facing fentanyl trafficking charges.
Watch for our story on the most recent arrests, including how a pre-arranged traffic stop led federal drug enforcement agents to seize thousands of suspected fentanyl-laced oxycodone pills, heroin and two stolen handguns from a Salem man’s car and home.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid developed to treat severe pain and is often given to cancer patients. But it can be deadly when taken illicitly, especially when users aren’t aware it’s been mixed into the drug they’re taking. Fentanyl is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.
We welcome your thoughts on how we can more thoroughly report on the fentanyl crisis that continues to devastate countless lives in Salem and elsewhere.
