First, please know that all of us on the news team appreciate you. Clearly, you appreciate the value of local news, done with devotion to accuracy and fairness. As other news organizations wither and cut back, Salem Reporter continues to provide unmatched reporting.

I’m writing to alert you to a modest price increase effective Aug. 1, adjusting the monthly price by $2 a month for monthly subscribers and a comparative increase for annual subscriptions. We do so to remain strong as a business so we can do what you expect – provide vital news about the people and organizations of Salem. Oregon just this month losing five newspapers serving eastern Oregon – a clear sign that the business of delivering news is tough.

We have nor adjusted our price since we launched more than five years ago. We have economized along the way to make the best use of our modest resources. Reality leads us to our first-ever change.

Still, we remain a great value for locally-produced, locally-managed news no one else delivers. I hope you agree.
