Police investigating ‘suspicious death’ of man found in downtown apartment fire

Firefighters found a man dead after responding to a fire in a downtown apartment early Saturday morning. Police said they consider the death suspicious.

Around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, Salem police and firefighters responded to a fire in an apartment building in the 1100 block of Northeast Chemeketa Street, near the Oregon State Capitol grounds. Authorities didn’t identify the apartment complex.
