The measure won’t fix Salem’s budget woes, but it would buy the city another year without deeper library cuts while a revenue task force works to come up with more ways for the city to get money.

Samuel Grill is accused of trafficking fentanyl in the Marion County Jail in November 2022. Another inmate at the time, Will Schultz, died of a fentanyl overdose while in jail.
Police on Monday searched a west Salem home and arrested a second suspect as part of a nearly two-year investigation into mail theft in the Salem area.
In the coming weeks, there will be town halls, public testimony and write-in opportunities for Salemites to share their thoughts on city budget cuts and revenue options.
