Good morning, Salem.

Marion County Fire District No. 1 now has a new fire engine at its Four Corners station in east Salem.

Western University of Health Sciences Lebanon Oregon

The engine comes courtesy of the Oregon State Fire Marshal. The state agency has a program intended to boost local fire crews’ ability to stop fires before they grow and put people in danger, the fire district said in a statement.

The district last year responded to a record 11,041 emergencies. Of those, 135 were fires.

It is a special district, an independent agency separate from any city, county or state government. The agency provides fire and emergency medical services to 59,000 people over 88 square miles, serving communities of Four Corners, Middle Grove, Pratum, Macleay, Brooks, Clear Lake, Labish and Chemeketa.

TAKE OUR SURVEY – LOCAL NEWS

At Salem Reporter, we constantly work to improve the news service we provide the community.

Once again, we’re turning to you and other readers for insight.

We’ve crafted a survey to gauge you interest in local topics. We’re also inviting you to suggest topics you’d like to read more about.

Your participation is confidential – and puts you in the running for a gift. We’ll put names of respondents into and randomly draw five people to get $25 gift cards from our friends at Governor’s Cup Coffee Roasters in downtown Salem.

The survey won’t take long and your participation would be hugely valuable.
