Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.

Over the past few days, the city has had trouble with a stretch of streetlights downtown that haven’t been coming on at night. The issue starts at the intersection of Northeast Trade Street and Front Street toward the Marion Street Bridge, according to a reader who emailed us asking why.

A breaker inside of one of the light poles is tripping, said Trevor Smith, spokesman for the Public Works Department. The lights are owned by the Oregon Department of Transportation, but maintained by the city.

“We hope to have the majority of them back up and running in a day or two once a permanent fix is identified and staff can schedule a time to make the fix safely,” Smith said earlier today.
