Salem police publish a log of a selection of calls officers responded to. Many of you said you’d like to see the information in our newsletter, so we’re again publishing the most recent update. The department received 700 calls from Dec. 22-24.

Trespass / 3600 block Market ST NE

A security officer reported a man inside a car in the parking lot of a business. The man was asleep with a gun in his lap. Officers were able to wake the man and trespass him from the location. The gun was taken for safekeeping.

Robbery / 2700 Lancaster DR NE

A man reported he was accosted as he left the gym by two men, one who carried a knife. The victim fought the men off and escaped in this vehicle but did receive a minor injury in the altercation. The incident remains an active investigation.

Trespass / 5000 Commercial ST SE

Security staff reported seeing a man inside a closed restaurant. Officers surrounded the business, and the man came to the door stating he was locked inside. Officers learned the suspect had intentionally remained inside the business after closing with plans to stay the night. The suspect was cited for trespass and released.

Driving under the influence / 1100 Hines ST SE

Officers responded to the report of a vehicle which crashed first into a parked car, then into a house. Nearby residents were evacuated since the crash resulted in a natural gas leak. The driver did not sustain injuries but was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant and reckless driving.

Menacing / 1000 block Fir ST S

A neighbor reported being approached by two young men who pointed what appeared to be a handgun with a laser at him. Officers canvassed the apartment complex for evidence. The case remains an active investigation.
