Your Friday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.

There’s a solar eclipse this weekend, but you’ll be hard-pressed to see much from Salem with cloudy skies in the forecast.

The annual eclipse is known as a “ring of fire” and occurs when the moon briefly passes in front of the sun, obscuring most of the light. The eclipse’s path travels just south of Salem.

What will be visible will depend on the cloud configuration when the eclipse travels overhead, around 9:20 a.m. If you’re determined to catch the event, southern Oregon or Nevada may be a better bet for a road trip.
