The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
Later this month, the Pentacle Theatre will hold auditions for its production of Neil Simon’s comedic play, “Brighton Beach Memoirs.”
The Salem show will be directed by Jo Hodge. Auditions will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 21 at the theater, 324 52nd Ave. N.W.
The Pentacle is seeking an ensemble of actors able to play “three male-presenting and four female-presenting roles,” according to a press release. The play is part one of Simon’s autobiographical trilogy, “a portrait of the writer as a young teen in 1937, living with his family in a crowded, lower-middle-class Brooklyn home.”
“Eugene Jerome, standing in for the author, is the narrator and central character. Dreaming of baseball and girls, Eugene copes with the mundane existence of his family life in Brooklyn, his formidable mother, his overworked father and his worldly older brother, Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche and her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters and you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Simon-style,” the release said.
More information, including a full list of role, is available online.
