Samuel T. Landis, 37, was indicted for criminally negligent homicide, accused of killing Marganne Allen as she rode her bike home from work on March 28, 2023.

He was released on $2,000 bail after surrendering on Sept. 6. DEA officials refuse to confirm whether the agency still employs Landis. He was assigned to a drug task force in Salem that includes Salem Police Department officers.

Allen’s family released a statement through Marion County District Attorney Paige Clarkson’s office after the court proceeding. The statement was attributed to Brian Lathen, a Salem attorney representing the family.

“The family is very grateful for the thoughts and prayers directed to them in this very difficult time. The show of support has been especially heartwarming.  The family requests their privacy be respected during this difficult time,” the statement said.

The next court proceeding is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 18, but there was no indication when Landis would enter his plea.
