If you see lots of police and fire trucks heading for the Salem airport tomorrow, don’t panic.
The city is hosting a “mass casualty drill” the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 13 to test the airport emergency plan. It’s a required step before Avelo Airlines can begin commercial flights out of the airport Oct. 5.
City officials said the drill would take about three and a half hours. The airport will remain open, and Salem residents won’t receive emergency alerts via the city’s Everbridge system as part of the drill. Read more about it on the city website here.
