Barton was an attorney in Washington and Oregon for over thirty years, and is an expert in sentencing.

Barton will discuss criminal justice reform to address the disproportionate rates of arrest, incarceration and police killings of Black Oregonians.

“The presentation will focus on the sentencing stage, by seeking various forms of leniency for Black defendants. In its final stage, the presentation will address a proposed legislative concept that should increase grand jury indictments that charge police with assaults or killings of suspects,” an event description reads.

The talk is sponsored by the Salem Keizer NAACP and RJOC. It will be at the Willamette University College of Law, 245 Winter St. S.E., and starts at 7 p.m.
