Your Friday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
Our reporters could use your help with two stories in the works.
As summer construction season gets underway, community reporter Abbey McDonald wants to help demystify the process for street repairs in Salem.
Do you have a problem pothole on your street? A crack in the pavement you’d like to see fixed? Abbey wants to know what questions you have on how to get road repairs done in your neighborhood, and your experience requesting city services. Email her at [email protected] – she can take your questions to the city and use them to guide her reporting.
Managing Editor Rachel Alexander is writing about the lingering payroll issues state workers are facing, months after the shift to the new Workday system.
The Department of Administrative Services, which oversees payroll, has so far declined to answer our specific questions about what issues remain, how widespread they are and whether an audit will be conducted. Our reporting focuses on one worker’s slate of issues, but we’re interested in hearing from others.
If you’re a state worker in Salem who’s still getting incorrect paychecks or dealing with the fallout from inaccurate pay stubs, tax withholdings or other Workday issues, Rachel would like to hear about the effect it’s having on your life. We’re especially interested in anything you’ve been told by DAS or your union about what resolution is underway.
Contact Rachel at [email protected], and let her know if you’re willing to talk in more detail.
Below is some of the day’s news. We’ve also included Salem Reporter’s weekly events guide and monthly exhibit guide in case you need ideas for how to spend your weekend.
