One of the most intriguing races in Oregon this year is to pick the next resident of Salem’s Mahonia Hall – the official governor’s home in south Salem.
There is plenty of information flying around about polls and big-dollar campaign donations.
But Salem Reporter hopes to help voters get beyond that with a series that starts on Monday, Oct. 17.
“Race for Governor – Vote 2022” will present special reports built around issues important to people in Salem and around the state. You’ll learn what nonaffiliated Betsy Johnson, Democrat Tina Kotek and Republican Christine Drazan have to say on those issues – and what their record has been.
And this is the result of a collaboration among a number of newsrooms across the state. Individually, we don’t have the staffing to delve deep into all these matters. Together, however, we forged a reporting team unmatched in Oregon.
The Albany Herald-Democrat wrote about wildfires and drought; Ashland News covered health care, including mental health; the Mail Tribune wrote about abortion, the Oregon Capital Chronicle covered housing, the Salem Reporter covered education and Yachats News wrote about the economy and cost of living.
As the number of journalists continues to shrink in Oregon, these sorts of journalistic endeavors are vital to delivering you deep reporting.
