Good morning, Salem.

Happy Election Day!

Ballots are due at 8 p.m. tonight.

Initial results will be published by election officials soon afterward, and Salem Reporter will be hard at work to count up totals and publish them on our website and on Facebook as soon as possible, with easy-to-read graphs showing who’s in the lead.

This election will decide the future of city policy, with a majority of council seats up for grabs. By the end of Tuesday night, some races may have a clear winner while others may remain too close to call.

We’ll have photographers Hailey Cook and Laura Tesler at tonight’s campaign parties to capture the excitement. Look out for those photos tomorrow.

Any ballot postmarked by 8 p.m. will still be counted, so long as it arrives by mail to the clerk’s office within the week. This close to the deadline, election officials recommend dropping ballots straight into a drop box to avoid any headaches.

See a map of all the ballot drop sites in Marion County here. The Marion County Clerk’s office is operating a drive-thru drop box outside its office in downtown Salem, at 555 Court Street N.E.

See Polk County’s ballot drop sites here.

Catch up on our election coverage here. We’ve interviewed every council candidate, the candidates for Polk County Commissioner position 3 and have done deep dives on both mayoral campaigns.
