Good morning, Salem.
Generally, we’ve heard positive reviews from teachers, who say students are more focused, engaged in class and learning more. Determined students find ways to skirt the bans, they said, but the positive impacts are still visible for the vast majority of teens.
Some reported seeing older technology like iPods returning to classrooms for students who want a way to listen to music on a device not connected to the Internet.
Students have been more mixed in their assessments. Managing Editor Rachel Alexander recently spoke with leadership students at McNary High School, who raised a mix of concerns about how the pouches have been implemented, including being able to contact parents during a recent fire drill.
We’re especially interested in hearing from students and parents who are seeing positive outcomes from the bans, or educators who don’t like the new policies.
