Good evening, Salem.
Marion County is seeking other counties in Oregon to sign onto its lawsuit over whether it can release personal information about people on parole to federal immigration authorities.
The suit is intended to address what county officials describe as conflicts between the state’s sanctuary law, which restricts what information can be shared with federal immigration authorities, the state’s public records law, and federal law. It’s drawn support from Oregon sheriffs and pushback from immigrant rights groups and local Democrats.
A dozen other counties have signed on to the effort, Oregon Public Broadcasting reported this week.
In other news, the city of Salem is urging people to avoid Croisan Creek following a small 10 gallon sewage overflow on Thursday afternoon.
The spill occurred near 888 Coburn St. S. due to roots in a sewer manhole. The sewage should be flushed from the water in the next few days.
