Good morning, Salem.

Cherriots leaders are planning a series of September open houses to gather feedback and answer questions about their plan to levy a tax on employers to support service expansions.

They’re also saying they’ll delay the tax’s effective date until 2027, and may lower the rate because state lawmakers are poised to vote on a package that includes more transit funding.

Meantime, the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce has come out strongly opposed to the tax in a statement released Thursday, joining the Keizer City Council. More on the latest is below.
