Good evening, Salem.

It’s not clear what sort of appetite Salem’s City Council might have for subsidizing commercial air service.

We’ll know more after a discussion tonight.

Councilors will meet to talk about what’s ahead for the city airport now that Avelo Airlines’ last flight has departed. Tourism and business groups are at work recruiting another airline, but initial revenue guarantees are likely to cost millions.

Councilors won’t make any decisions tonight, but their questions and conversation will give an indication where Salem might head next. Joe Siess’ story below has more on the discussion, and we’ll update you tomorrow as well.
