COLUMN: Peafowl, imported to Willamette Valley, find a home in Salem

The Indian peafowl is known for its dramatic fan of tail feathers. It is also renowned for having a loud voice. 

After I started seeing one or two near my home in southeast Salem, I investigated.  The peafowl is an introduced species in Oregon with no official record of having been released (unlike turkeys).  There are no ongoing population measurements or formal studies of the bird here in Oregon.  What I have found are eyewitnesses (or…
