Good morning, Salem.

Mark Green, a force behind the city’s annual Make Music Day celebration, died last week, event organizers said.

Green was a founder of the decade-old celebration of free music held every year on June 21. “We just want to throw a good party and have fun,” he told Salem Reporter ahead of this year’s event.

His aim was to build something uniquely Salem at a time when the city was widely believed to have no culture or music scene. The event has grown since to feature hundreds of performances spanning genres and venues across the city.

He was also a co-founder of RiverCity Rock Star Academy.

Green died Aug. 5 from wild-type amyloidosis, an organ disease, event organizers said.
