Higher tariffs on U.S. imports from dozens of countries hit Thursday, raising average import taxes to the highest levels in over a century.
Tariffs are taxes paid by businesses importing goods. Those that went into effect Thursday cover goods from more than 90 nations, including much of Southeast Asia and Canada.
