What to do in Salem from May 29-June 4: Noble Fest, Riverfront Carousel birthday, mystery movie

Here’s a roundup for the week from Thursday, May 29, to Wednesday, June 4.

Blast Off Vintage show

Thursday, May 29: Spend Thursday night at Blast Off Vintage for a lineup of artists from Salem and around the country. The vintage clothing store is hosting four musical guests for a show starting at 7 p.m. The first performer, Bazooka Sharkz, is a punk band from Salem. Other performers include Middle-Aged Queers, a LGBTQ punk group; Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits, a folk punk group; and Dollar Store, a genreless band from Oakland.

The show will take place at Blast Off Vintage, located 860 High St. N.E. All ages are welcome and entrance costs $10. More information is available on Facebook.

“Improv-aganza”

Friday, May 30: “A big, super fun improv show,” will take the stage at Infinity Room downtown, according to the event description. The show will include a number of players participating in improv comedy along with a surprise guest host.

Improv starts at 9:30 p.m., doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $13.83 in advance, $15 at the door. Infinity Room is located at 210 Liberty St. S.E. #150. 

Infinity Room is in its last month of events and will close June 21, Make Music Day.

Noble Fest

*Saturday, May 31: An all-day musical event will take place outside of Noble Wave, a southern restaurant in downtown Salem. The restaurant is expanding its patio into Liberty Street for the afternoon to host a list of artists who will perform everything from orchestral rock to country music to jazz inspired by video games. The event is in celebration of the restaurant’s six years downtown.

The performances will be from 1:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. outside 189 Liberty St. N.E. Suite #112. The event is free to attend. More information is available online.

Halloween in spring

Saturday, May 31: A panel of Salem comedians will roast and review folk horror movies in a comedy show focused on the best and worst of horror. The show, which has appeared at a Portland comedy and film festival for the last five years, includes local comedians like James Wood, Emma Jonas and Lacie Wood.

The show will include “razor-sharp riffs, bizarre vintage commercials, and a gory countdown of the most iconic, ridiculous and gruesome folk horror kills,” according to the event description.

Doors open at 6 p.m., the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $11.75 in advance, $15 at the door. The event will take place downtown at the Infinity Room, 210 Liberty St. N.E. #150. 21+ only.

Riverfront Carousel birthday

Sunday, June 1: Celebrate the 24th year of Salem’s Riverfront Carousel at a birthday celebration Sunday afternoon. At 12 p.m., there will be free birthday cake while it lasts, and a round of “Happy Birthday” singing to celebrate. For the whole day, carousel rides cost $1 instead of $2.

Riverfront Carousel is located in Riverfront Park at 101 Front St. N.E. and will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. More information is available online.

Mystery movie

Monday, June 2: An unknown movie will show at Salem Cinema for only $5. The movie showing is part of a Monday mystery movie event taking place at other theaters, like Regal Theatre locations.

The mystery movie will show at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and available online. Salem Cinema is located at 1127 Broadway St. N.E.
