Salem Reporter Social Media Policy

At Salem Reporter, we want to foster thoughtful, respectful and informed dialogue on the issues that matter to Salem. We intend our channels to be open for informed conversation, where people can feel safe voicing opinions, where the increasing meanness evident on social media is checked and civility rules.

Your responsibility

By participating in Salem Reporter’s social media spaces, you agree to follow these standards:

Be respectful. Disagreeing is fine—personal attacks are not. Treat others with civility and courtesy.

Keep it clean. Profanity, vulgar language or obscenity of any kind will not be tolerated.

Stay on topic. Comments need to be relevant to the story or discussion thread.

•No hate speech or discrimination of any sort. Comments that demean individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, immigration status or any other protected status will be removed.

•No threats or harassment. We do not allow intimidation, harassment or incitements to violence

Misinformation. Be sure of your facts. Demonstrably false posts will be deleted.

•No GIFs. We want your comment, not someone else’s invention.

Our responsibility

•Comments that don’t meet Salem Reporter’s standards may be removed without notice.

•Egregious or repeated violations can result in users being blocked without notice.

•We appreciate reader notifications of potentially offending posts. Send your note to [email protected].
