Good morning…..
With two paid interns coming this summer, we have a fundraising campaign underway. I hope you can help.
It’s a big lift for a small organization such as Salem Reporter to employ two interns. But this chance to provide training and guidance to future journalists is too important.
In the next 30 days, we’re aiming to raise just $5,000. The money matches what the University of Oregon provides for salaries, benefits and supplies.
You read Salem Reporter because you trust us to give you the straight facts about the community.
Now, I’m asking you to trust us with this important mission.
Please know every dollar counts to make this possible. You can contribute online in just a few moments. You can get more details about the effort in my recent Editor’s Note.
DONATE.
And on another front, you no doubt seen that social media channels have become a bit rough. People feel freer than ever to swear, personally insult others or post absurd GIFs that take little thinking to publish.
Our team has revised and updated our social media policy. We’re all for free speech. But just as you wouldn’t let someone into your living room to yell insults, we’re clamping down on inappropriate remarks. We think the community expects us to maintain standards on our sites. I invite you to take a glance at Salem Reporter’s policy and suggest any improvements.
People in Salem are still sending us comments about our series, “Sentenced to the Sidewalk.” Reporter Abbey McDonald, who prepared this remarkable project, has distilled the series. She lines out her takeaways from the months of investigating.
Let’s catch you up on what else is happening around Salem.
