New vote results released for Salem mayor, city council races

Salem will get a new mayor and likely will get at least two new city councilors after balloting in the May primary election on Tuesday, May 19.
Mayor Julie Hoy conceded the race Wednesday afternoon to her challenger Vanessa Nordyke, who so far has 56% of the vote with several thousand ballots remaining to count.
Council President Linda Nishioka remains in the lead for the Ward 2 race against opponent Manny Martinez, and Dave Inbody is on track to unseat incumbent Deanna Gwyn for the Ward 4 seat. Betsy Vega leads the race for Ward 6 against incumbent Mai Vang. The margin for Ward 8, between incumbent Micki Varney and challenger Chris Cummings, was razor thin as of Wednesday afternoon.
Seats held by Councilors Paul Tigan, Shane Matthews and Irvin Brown weren’t up in this election.
