COLUMN: Meet Salem’s heron family
The Interstate 5 herons are back at their nests.
The great blue herons have a nest colony just southeast of Exit 263. It’s visible best from northbound lanes. The nests are in mature cottonwoods east of I-5, and will be easily viewed until the trees leaf out. If you spend any time near our streams or lakes or marshes, you’ve seen the great blue heron.
