Thief takes gear from from Oregon School for the Deaf in Salem, OSP seeks help

A man stole $50,000 worth of items from the Oregon School for the Deaf early Thursday morning, according to the Oregon State Police.
The school, which is located in Salem’s Highland neighborhood, serves young deaf and hard of hearing students from around Oregon.
The state police are asking for the public’s help identifying the thief caught on camera stealing from the school.
The theft happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, and the man “climbed through a building window” to get into the school, according to a Friday statement by state police. The statement doesn’t specify whether he broke the window before climbing inside.
He then left carrying what appeared to be machinery and tools, according to state police. The man also stole a “side-by-side” vehicle, a type of utility vehicle, which he filled with the other stolen items, the statement said.
State police describe the man in his mid 30s who is between 5-feet-7 and 6 feet tall. He’s estimated to weigh around 180 to 225 pounds, and has red facial hair. At the time of the theft, he was wearing an orange sweatshirt, a brown hat and green sweatpants that said “UO Oregon,” the statement said.
Those with information are being asked to call the Oregon State Police’s Northern Command Center at 800-442-0776 or *677 on a mobile phone. The case number to reference is SP25-504177.
