Where to stay cool Tuesday as heat wave in Salem continues

Another triple-digit high is expected in Salem Tuesday, and the region remains under an extreme heat warning until 10 p.m.
Temperatures are expected to drop Wednesday, with a high of 88 degrees. By Friday, weather will be in the 70s and likely rainy, according to the National Weather Service‘s Portland office.
Here are places people can go to stay cool for free Tuesday, Aug. 12. Marion County’s Health and Human Services Department maintains a list here.
- ARCHES Day Center, 615 Commercial St. N.E., 12-7 p.m.
- Northwest Human Services Homeless Outreach and Advocacy Project, 694 Church St. N.E., Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Recovery Outreach Community Center, 1190 Broadway St. N.E, Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. The cooling shelter will stay open Aug. 12 beyond regularly scheduled hours until the temperature drops below 95 degrees.
- Seed of Faith Ministries Cooling Center, 1230 Winter St. N.E., Aug. 10-12 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- While not an official cooling center, the Salem Public Library’s main branch, 585 Liberty St. S.E. is open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The West Salem branch, 395 Glen Creek Rd. N.W., is open 1-6 p.m.
