State issues six-figure fine to drug take back operator

Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality issued a six-figure fine to a North Carolina nonprofit responsible for collecting unwanted medication across the state, saying it failed to provide enough drop sites or mail out drug disposal containers within a suitable time frame.

The regulator issued a $648,500 civil penalty on May 22 to the Drug Take-Back Solutions Foundation alleging four violations of state law. It’s one of DEQ’s largest fines in recent history.
