They had the fire out within five minutes.

The fire was reported at 1147 D St. N.E., according to dispatch records.

Five engines and two battalion chiefs were dispatched to the fire initially, but some were recalled early after arriving on scene, according to Carrara.

Drivers in the area this morning were blocked off from entering D Street between Northeast Capitol and 14th streets.

Carrara said that residents were able to safely leave the house and no injuries have been reported.

A fire marshal is currently investigating the cause of this morning’s fire. Carrara said he could not provide an estimate of how much of the home was damaged by the fire and smoke.

The Red Cross has been contacted to provide any services residents need due to potential fire damages.
