The Marion County District Attorney’s Office filed the charges on Nov. 15.

“It has been determined that the victim and suspect were known to each other,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday. The agency did not specify the nature of their relationship and the district attorney’s office did not immediately respond to an email seeking clarification.

Sheriff’s deputies were called at 11:34 a.m. on Nov. 2 to the 4700 block of Delaney Southeast Road “after a body was discovered,” the sheriff’s office said at the time, identifying the victim as Thompson and her death as “a possible homicide.”

The rural road is just outside of Turner, in an unincorporated area of Marion County.

Thompson lived in “the Portland/Vancouver area,” according to Sgt. Jeremy Schwab, sheriff’s office spokesman.

The Gresham Police Department’s K-9 team and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Strickland on Tuesday. She was booked into the Marion County Jail.

The sheriff’s office provided few details about Thompson’s death in its public statement Wednesday, saying “no further details will be released.”

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Thompson family during this difficult time,” the agency wrote.

At Strickland’s first court appearance Wednesday afternoon, Marion County Circuit Judge Pro Tem Drew Taylor ordered that she remain in custody without bail, court records showed.

She is scheduled to appear in court again on March 7 to face a possible grand jury indictment.
