Man, 63, dies in suspected hit-and-run in West Salem on Monday night

A 63-year-old man was found dead in West Salem Monday night after a suspected hit-and-run left him on the roadway.

Salem police responded to the intersection of Northwest Edgewater Street and Murlark Avenue around 8:30 p.m., on a report of an injured man in the street, the agency said in a Tuesday statement.

Police identified the man as Steven C. Bishop, a Salem resident.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, the statement said. 

The on-scene investigation closed the intersection for three and a half hours Monday night. 

The Salem Police Traffic Team is investigating and asked anyone with information to call the police tips line at 503-588-8477.
