Motorcyclist dies after collision with pickup truck in NE Salem

A motorcyclist died after a collision with a pickup truck driver Thursday afternoon in northeast Salem.
William D. Ryan, 44, of Salem, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Salem Police Department said in a news release.
Police responded to the deadly collision around 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
They determined that the motorcyclist was riding east on Northeast Market Street approaching Northeast 23rd Street just before the crash. A woman driving a pickup truck west on Market Street started to turn south onto 23rd when the motorcyclist collided with the truck.
“Witnesses reported the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck the truck’s passenger door,” according to the police statement.
Police said the driver of the truck, Tania Vargas Campos, 36, of Salem, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Market Street was closed between Northeast 21st and 24th Streets NE for around two hours after the collision.
Police said that Ryan was the 15th person killed in a collision this year in Salem.
