READER PHOTOS: Salem freezes over

With our newsroom reporting from home over the past few icy days, we asked Salem readers to show us what their corner of the city looked like.

Readers delivered, with outdoor scenes from backyards and parks, along with images of pets and wild animals taking in the ice.

Much of the ice has been transformed to slush as temperatures warmed Wednesday, and the forecast calls for rain and highs in the 40s the rest of the week. Before it all melts away, here’s a roundup of a few Salem scenes from the storm.

Reader Pam Volk sent in two shots of hummingbirds feeding in the cold.

“There are a pair of hummers who come to the feeder outside my kitchen window.  I have been especially careful to tend it during the ice storm,” she said. “The tiny visitors provided entertainment for our cat.  They are amazing creatures.”
