Gresham woman’s death at NE Salem hotel prompts homicide investigation

Police are investigating the death of a Gresham woman found Saturday morning at a northeast Salem hotel as a homicide.

The Salem Police Department on Monday identified the woman as 22-year-old Janet Ramos-Hernandez in a news release but has otherwise provided little information about her death.

Department spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Hardy declined to say whether a suspect had been identified or arrested. “Other than what was released we have no additional information as of this time. Investigators are still working the case,” he wrote in an email Monday.

Officers responded to a a “CPR call” at 6:35 a.m. on Saturday at the Shilo Inn at 3304 Market Street N.E., where they found a woman in her 20s dead, according to the first news release issued that afternoon by Salem police. That statement did not clarify who made the call to police.

“The case is being investigated as a homicide at this time, the investigation is ongoing, and additional updates will be provided when more information is available for release,” the agency said in its second statement Monday.
