South Salem homes hit in wave of graffiti attacks, police say

Vandals hit at least 17 homes and businesses with graffiti in the last week in a broad area of south Salem, according to the Salem Police Department.

The targets ranged approximately from Southeast Miller Street to South Candalaria Boulevard.

“The commonality in these incidents was the spray-painting of the letters W, S, and B which was applied to various surfaces, such as fences, building walls, utility boxes, a garage door, and a car,” according to an email on Friday, April 14, from Angela Hedrick, public information officer for the Salem Police Department.

Some incidents were reported by victims and others were discovered by the agency’s Graffiti Abatement Team while it was out removing other graffiti.

Hedrick said at least one business, a dental clinic on Southeast Commercial Street, a utility box owned by PGE, and a restroom at Bush’s Pasture Park were spray painted.

“We do not have a suspect in these cases,” Hedrick reported.

She said anyone with information can the Salem Police Tips Line at 503-588-8477.
