Crystal Apple Awards to be announced in Salem event that will be broadcast live

What some might consider Salem’s version of the Oscars takes place Friday for the 24th annual presentation of the Crystal Apple Awards.

The event at the Salem Convention Center puts the spotlight on 89 people nominated for their work in the Salem-Keizer School District and at area private and charter schools. The winners of the coveted Crystal Apple will be announced in the evening program, which has long been sold out.

But those without tickets can still get in on the action.

Nominees will head into the event along a red carpet where relatives, supporters and the curious can gather.

That grand entry is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., with nominees arranged in alphabetical order by the school or district department where they work. The schedule:

5:30 – 5:45 p.m.: Auburn – CTEC

5:45 – 6:00 p.m.: Early Childhood Education – Harritt

6:00 – 6:15 p.m.: Highland – McNary

6:15 – 6:30 p.m.: Migrant Education – Scott

6:30 – 6:45 p.m.: South Salem – Sumpter

6:45 – 7:00 p.m.: Swegle – Yoshikai

The dinner and award ceremony starts at 7 p.m. with Zach DuFault, a South Salem High School graduate and local actor, serving as emcee. The convention center is located at 200 Commercial St. S.E.

The event will be broadcast live and then available in a recorded format through Capital Community Media.

The live show can be watched with this link or watched anytime on demand with this link.

The event is presented by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and the McLaran Leadership Foundation.
