Salem police report no arrests after two shot in Winco parking lot

Two men were hospitalized following a shooting in the parking lot of a southeast Salem grocery store Tuesday night, the Salem Police Department announced Wednesday morning.

Police have made no arrests in the shooting, according to department spokeswoman Angela Hedrick.

Witnesses said shots rang out in the parking lot of the southeast Salem Winco in the 1200 block of Southeast Lancaster Drive around 9:45 p.m.

Salem police officers responded to a report that a person fired shots from a vehicle at at people in another vehicle, and both vehicles then fled the area, police said.

Less than five minutes later, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received the call reporting two people with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a business in the 100 block of Southeast Lancaster Drive, Salem police said in the statement.

Salem officers determined the victims were involved in the shooting that occurred minutes earlier less than a mile away.

The two victims, 19 and 22, both suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to Salem Hospital, according to the department’s statement.

Salem police wrote that detectives are investigating the incident and “working all available leads.” The agency asked anyone who may have witnessed or has information about the shooting to call its tips line, 503-588-8477.
