Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigating fatal head-on crash Monday

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a head-on crash Monday night which led to one person sustaining fatal injuries.

Deputies and emergency personnel responded to a two-car crash Monday at about 7:15 p.m. on Golf Club Road SE near Mill Creek Road SE, just outside the city of Stayton. According to a press release, deputies arrived on scene to discover two vehicles were involved in the head-on crash.

The multi-agency crash team was called to the scene to help collect evidence. “Initial information at the scene indicates a red Kia Rio was traveling north on Golf Club Road before crossing over the centerline while negotiating a curve, striking an oncoming black Kia Optima,” the release stated. “Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were contributing factors to the crash.”

57-year-old Bridget Turner of Stayton was identified as the driver of the red Kia Rio.

She was transported from the scene to an area hospital by Life Flight. However, she died from injuries sustained in the crash, deputies report. The 21-year-old male driving the black Kia Optima also sustained minor injuries. Neither vehicles had passengers.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by many agencies, including the Keizer Police Department, Life Flight, Marion County Public Works, METCOM 911, Oregon State Police, Stayton Fire District, Stayton Police Department, and Willamette Valley Communications Center.
