Doctors, families help spruce up Bush’s Pasture Park

On Aug. 24, 18 Marion Polk County Medical Society members and their families volunteered at Bush’s Pasture Park. They weeded and cleaned debris in the shaded rhododendron gardens off Southeast Lefelle and Summer streets.

The park’s maintenance operator, Amy Jucutan, assisted volunteers by showing them specific weeds to pick.  Volunteers included two-year-old Zayne, who came with his father, Ty Weber, MD, and his two older siblings.

Several younger volunteers participated in a native plant identification game. Jucutan said the weeding would allow a future volunteer group to put down mulch. This will help preserve the rhododendron garden.

Zayne Webber, age two, son of Ty Webber, hard at work in the park. When his older brother Reese was asked, “Has he been farmin’ long?” he said, “No, just about 5 minutes.” (Mary Louise VanNatta/Special to Salem Reporter)
