Deputies say a driver hit and killed a pedestrian Sunday night in Hayesville.

Around 10:05 p.m. Sunday, deputies and emergency personnel responded to a crash in which a vehicle struck a pedestrian at the 4000 block of Northeast Lancaster Drive and Northeast Ibex Street, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The area of Lancaster – near Chemeketa Community College – was closed for about four hours while members of the sheriff’s office’s CRASH team investigated the crash.

The sheriff’s office said in the release it would not identify the “male pedestrian” before notifying next of kin.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, remained on scene. No citations or arrests had been made as of Monday morning, the release said.

Investigators asked anyone who may have information about the crash to call the sheriff’s office’s non-emergency number at 503-588-5032.
