ELECTION RESULTS: View the 2022 primary election results in local races

(Amanda Loman/Salem Reporter)

This article was updated Wednesday at 8:40 a.m. with the latest Tuesday night ballot counts. The next count is expected around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Initial ballot returns Tuesday night showed Chris Hoy ahead of Chane Griggs in the race to be Salem’s next mayor, with progressive candidates leading business-backed candidates in two of three contested council races.

Marion County District Attorney Paige Clarkson was ahead of challenger Spencer Todd in the first ballot count, and Polk County Commissioner Craig Pope appeared headed toward re-election.

A substantial number of ballots remain to be counted. A change in Oregon law for the first time allows ballots postmarked by election day to be counted, which means it could take days for all votes to arrive at county election offices.

Here are the 2022 results for Salem-area races as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17.
