Salem residents Thursday night can partake in an open mic and listen to a poetry manuscript prepared by an award-winning writer for publishing.

The virtual event, hosted by the Salem Poetry Project, will feature Mike Shuler, a writer of poetry, stories and songs who has been an active member of the Mid-Valley Poetry Society for around a decade.

Shuler’s writing has appeared in Northwest Passage, Calapooia Collage, Appalachian Magazine, Perceptions, Terra Incognita and other publications, and he was previously awarded a North Carolina state poetry. His chapbook, “Words on Wind,” was published in 2015.

He prepared a poetry manuscript for publishing and will read from it at the event.

The Salem Poetry Project each week presents a featured reader followed by the “Infamous Open Mic,” with three poems or five minutes – whichever is first.

The featured reader starts at 7:00 and the open mic will follow directly after.
