The Marion County Board of Commissioners meets Wednesday to consider more grant funds from the state for wildfire recovery in the Santiam Canyon, an agreement to provide services that help people avoid the criminal justice system and state funds for expunging juvenile records.
Commissioners will consider reappointing Richard Massey to the Marion County Planning Commission. His term would end in February 2026.
The board will consider adding $100,000 to a grant from the state Business Development Department for economic recovery and development in the Santiam Canyon, and extending the project’s completion date to June 30, 2023. That would bring the new contract total to $400,800. The grant funds contract with Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments and Sherwood-based Smith-Wagar-Brucker Consulting to provide financial and administrative help to the cities of Detroit and Gates, as well as part-time city managers for those cities and more staff time for wildfire recovery.
Commissioners will also consider approving a collaborative memorandum of understanding between Marion County departments and other agencies to support the Marion County Reentry Initiative through June 2026. The program provides housing, transportation, treatment, mentoring and other services to help keep people out of the criminal justice system after they are released from prison.
They will also consider accepting $270,000 from the Oregon Youth Authority for the Marion County Juvenile Department to expunge juvenile records over two years. The passage of SB 575 in Oregon’s 2021 Legislative Session mandated clearing records of over 5,000 minors every year who have records based on contact with law enforcement but weren’t convicted in juvenile court.
