Man killed in northeast Salem shooting

A man died shortly after he was shot in northeast Salem Wednesday morning.

The Salem Police Department responded around 11:15 a.m. to the 1000 block of 39th Avenue Northeast to a reported shooting, where they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds, according to a Wednesday news release.

The man was transported to Salem Hospital, where he died from his wounds.

The police department did not disclose the names of the victim or suspects. “Several people have been detained and we do not believe there is any further threat to the public,” the news release said.

Officers closed multiple streets in the area to search for people who were involved. 39th Avenue will be closed between Anita Drive and D Street Northeast for the next few hours as police continue to investigate the incident.
