State police release name of man shot and killed by Salem police

Oregon State Police on Monday released the name of the Salem man who was shot and killed by police Friday and the name of the officer who shot him.

Salem police officer Nathan Bush shot Arcadio Castillo III, 23, after police responded to a domestic violence call in the 3700 block of Northeast June Avenue around 11:20 p.m., according to police accounts.

In a news release Saturday, Salem police said officers responded to a call about a man with a knife.

“During the investigation the responding officer shot the suspect. The officer was not injured during the incident,” the police statement said.

Bush has been placed on administrative leave per protocol.

On June 21, Castillo III was ordered by the Marion County Circuit Court not to have contact with a victim in a domestic violence case while he was held in the Marion County Jail. He pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault in that case.
