A 40-year-old woman who had lived on the streets in Salem was found dead by Oregon State Police under the Market Street overpass Monday afternoon.

Tammy Rayan Federici is one of dozens of houseless people who have died in Salem in the past year according to anecdotal accounts. There’s no formal tracking of homeless deaths by the state or Marion County, but a bill currently in the Legislature seeks to change that.

Federici’s daughter, Shyann, said her mother was one of the funniest people she knew.

She went to Reynolds High School in Troutdale and lived in Gresham before coming to Salem several years ago, according to social media accounts and court records.

Shyann Federici said her mother struggled with addiction.

“Addiction wasn’t her only personality trait. She was an amazing mom to me and my sister. She lit up a room whenever she walked into one and always made sure everyone around her was happy before herself,” she wrote to Salem Reporter.

Oregon State Police said no foul play was suspected in her death but have scheduled an autopsy.
